Avoiding Whitewashing in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Resource Sharing Network

چکیده
In peer-to-peer file sharing network, it is hard to distinguish between a legitimate newcomer and a whitewasher. This makes whitewashing a big problem in peerto-peer networks. Although the problem of whitewashing can be solved using permanent identities, it may take away the right of anonymity for users. In this paper, we a have proposed a novel algorithm to avoid this problem when network uses free temporary identities. In this algorithm, the initial reputation is adjusted according to the level of whitewashing in the network.

Enhanced Search in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Overlay Networks
Unstructured Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlays are the most widely used topologies in P2P systems because of their simplicity and very limited control overhead. A P2P overlay specifies the logical connections among peers in a network. Such logical links define the order in which peers are queried in search for a specific resource. The most popular query routing algorithms are based on flooding, thus ...
متن کاملP2P Network Trust Management Survey
Peer-to-peer applications (P2P) are no longer limited to home users, and start being accepted in academic and corporate environments. While file sharing and instant messaging applications are the most traditional examples, they are no longer the only ones benefiting from the potential advantages of P2P networks. For example, network file storage, data transmission, distributed computing, and co...
متن کاملUnstructured peer-to-peer networks for sharing processor cycles
Motivated by the needs and success ofprojects such as SETI@llOme and genome@home, we propose an architecturefor a sustainable large-scale peer-to-peer environment for distributed cycle sharing among Internet hosts. Such networks are characterized by highly dynamic state due to high arrival and departure rates. This makes it difficult to build and maintain structured networks and to use statebas...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Controlled Scalability in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Networks
In unstructured peer-to-peer networks, the analysis of scalability is a challenging task due to the unpredictable nature of churn rate. Specifically, in the P2P file sharing applications, peers join and leave the overlay network in a dynamic fashion increase the complexity of the network and leads to a huge wastage of bandwidth during the search for a particular file. In this paper, we proposed...
متن کاملA Sybilproof Indirect Reciprocity Mechanism for Peer-to-Peer Networks
Although direct reciprocity (Tit-for-Tat) contribution systems have been successful in reducing freeloading in peerto-peer overlays, it has been shown that, unless the contribution network is dense, they tend to be slow (or may even fail) to converge [1]. On the other hand, current indirect reciprocity mechanisms based on reputation systems tend to be susceptible to Sybil attacks, peer slander ...
